Florida Senate recount looming, despite Scott’s claim of victory

Scott's campaign and the NRSC will also have access to those ballots, per the judge's ruling.

CNN is reporting that absentee ballots postmarked on November 6 - Election Day - may take another day or two to arrive, so the total could change. If the signature on the ballot envelope doesn't match state records, the vote is rejected. Broward county leans heavily Democratic, meaning the different ballots could have resulted in fewer votes for Nelson.

"Every day since the election the leftwing activists in Broward county have been coming up with more and more ballots out of nowhere", Scott said in his press conference.

But 22,000 votes still need counting in the tight race between Mr Kemp and Democrat Stacey Abrams - who has not yet conceded.

The tabulation of those votes will continue to narrow Scott's razor-thin lead over Nelson, Elias predicted.

The margin in the Senate race of 0.18 percentage points meant the race was headed to a lengthy hand recount, triggered by law with margins of less than 0.25 percentage points.

Scott says "unethical liberals" are trying to steal the election.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel said it analysed voting patterns and found that of Broward ballots already counted, 24,700 residents voted for a governor candidate but did not pick a candidate for Senate.

As it stands, counties across Florida have until noon on Saturday to submit their unofficial totals. Elias said it was odd that the undervoting was happening at the top of the ticket, rather than downballot.

Gaetz, whose district is in Florida's Panhandle, also said the state should take over the Broward elections office.

Votes were still being counted Wednesday morning, but Scott's lead was within that margin, according to CNN projections. While the local races were all situated elsewhere on the ballot, only Senate and U.S. House of Representatives were located below the instructions, and in one district where there was no race for rep, the Senate race was the only one below the instructions.

In a machine recount, all completed ballots are re-fed through ballot-counting machines to try to confirm the original, unofficial counts.

Democrats believe there is an issue with how votes were calculated in Broward county and Palm Beach, both strongholds for the party.

He called on the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate. Every vote that was legally and verifiably cast prior to the polls closing at 7 p.m. on Tuesday should of course be counted.

Scott filed a lawsuit Thursday night against Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes, asking the court to order Snipes to turn over several records detailing the counting and collection of ballots.

Mr Scott filed lawsuits on Thursday against election supervisors in two counties, accusing them of failing to follow election law.

The Florida governor's race appeared to be all but settled Tuesday night when Gillum conceded to DeSantis.
