Caitlyn Jenner’s Malibu Home Destroyed By California Wildfire

The blaze has spread rapidly overnight, fanned by strong winds, and has jumped Highway 101, a major route west of Los Angeles.

Flames driven by powerful winds torched dozens of hillside homes in Southern California, burning parts of tony Calabasas and mansions in Malibu and forcing tens of thousands of people - including some celebrities - to flee as the fire marched across the Santa Monica Mountains toward the sea.

Ventura and Los Angeles county agencies have a unified command of the incident, in addition to CalFire. Caitlyn Jenner reportedly lost her home to the Woolsey Fire. In Southern California there are now two fires in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties threatening structures and forcing evacuations.

In 1978, a fire destroyed 230 homes in Agoura, Malibu and Mandeville Canyon.

Two large fires are now burning in Ventura and Los Angeles counties that have jumped the 101.

A second fire broke out Thursday night south of Simi Valley called the Woolsey Fire.

This fire quickly spread to cover 10,000 acres, Ventura County Fire Department officials said. By mid-morning Friday it had burned over 14,000 acres and an untold number of homes.

And in part of Malibu itself - a city of about 12,000 people known for beachside homes owned by celebrities and millionaires - a voluntary evacuation advisory was issued Friday morning. Murphy says firefighters were able to stop the fire at the edge of the city, where evacuation orders remained in place. Drought-stricken fuels, Santa Ana wind conditions, low relative humidity, high temperatures: "It's a recipe for fire", said Ventura County Fire Department Assistant Chief Chad Cook, the incident commander for the Hill Fire.

Only a day after it began, the fire near the town of Paradise had grown to almost 110 square miles (285 square kilometers).

The blaze has devastated the town of 27,000 people and is moving north into Sierra Nevada foothill communities. "This fire moved so fast and grew so fast a lot of people got caught by it". "We know there have been fatalities", but exact numbers still being determined by local law enforcement agencies, he said. One woman stuck in traffic went into labour, the Enterprise-Record newspaper reported.

The actor said his "nervous" daughter Willow, 18, asked him to go and have a look outside as the Woolsey wildfire, which is now 14,000 acres and being fed by strong winds and dry conditions, creeps closer to their home.

Late Thursday, more than 2,200 firefighters were battling the flames and the fire remains uncontained, according to Cal Fire.

And up to 50 miles per hour were expected to spread in the the county's valleys and coastal areas below. Jerry Brown is traveling out of state.
