Lionel Messi could play against Inter, says Ernesto Valverde

Manager Ernesto Valverde will be buoyed by the presence of Lionel Messi with the travelling squad in what will be a key European tie.

The voting processes ends on Friday, but claims have been made that Messi believes a final match-winning performance could sway the award in his favour.

As Barcelona ready themselves to face Italian club Inter Milan on Tuesday (Wednesday in Pakistan as the game would begin at 1am), we take a look at Messi's goals against Italian clubs in European competitions throughout his career.

Mauro Icardi cancelled out an effort from Malcom as Inter Milan came from behind to draw 1-1 with Barcelona in Tuesday night's Champions League clash at San Siro.

Barcelona beat Inter 2-0 on October 24 at Nou Camp in the teams' first meeting of the season. We expect them to have a little more pressing and pressure high up the pitch.

Barcelona sparked confusion by omitting Messi from the original squad list for the game published on social media, only to amend it minutes later with their captain included.

"They're still there and let's not forget who's not there", Moreno said on ESPN FC, discussing Barca's Champions League credentials this term up against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

At the back, Sergi Roberto, Gerard Pique, Clement Langlet and Jordi Alba are all likely to start.

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen should get the nod in goal.

Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets and Arthur are expected to make up the midfield.

Upfront, Luis Suarez is another player who has stepped up in Messi's absence, and should be focal point of the Barcelona attack.

Ousmane Dembele equalized with three minutes remaining in the match.
