Lacazette salvages Arsenal's unbeaten run, halts Liverpool's title charge

Emery turns 47 on Saturday and will be hoping to toast his birthday with victory over Liverpool - the side he beat in the 2016 Europa League final in his last match in charge of Sevilla.

The linesman ruled Mane offside, but replays showed Firmino onside when he was played in and Mane behind his Brazilian team-mate when the shot was taken.

Arsenal will have an incredibly strong attack with their in form strikers in Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a problem for Liverpool's back line but I think if Xhaka and Lichsteiner start at fullback they could be horribly exposed.

I am sure the players will be thinking the same thing.

"It's a pity it didn't count, but we made a few more mistakes than the ref to be honest".

They have already lost to Manchester City and Chelsea this campaign and a defeat against Liverpool - who they haven't beaten in six league games - would bring a 13-game unbeaten run to a halt.

Jurgen Klopp and his side are favourites for the clash and are expected to finish above Arsenal this season.

'We are starting this project with a very positive way with what we are doing.

Arsenal had the better of the first half, but should have fallen behind when Sadio Mane found the net after Roberto Firmino had struck the woodwork. Arsenal's subs have been involved in more Premier League goals this season than any other side (six goals, four assists). "I knew before it would be hard".

Speaking ahead the game, as quoted by The Telegraph, Emery has revealed his aim to replicate the passion that Klopp exhibits on the touchline, believing it can translate to his players on the field.

"The result is a good result for how we did in 90 minutes, when we were losing". Unlike most games this season, the Gunners came out full of energy and intent in the first half and maintained a high level throughout the 90 minutes. It was a good test for us. "Now, for us, it's a good, big example of how you can improve also in your way".

Emery has taken Ozil out of his comfort zone and been very outspoken about saying he needs to do more for the team, but at the same time he has rewarded him by giving him the captain's armband, which sends a message about how much he values him.

"For our supporters and us I think it is a great match but I am happy only 50 per cent because I wanted to win".

However, the real test of how far Emery's Arsenal have evolved since being outclassed by City on the opening weekend of the season comes when Liverpool travel to the Emirates on Saturday.

"It's disappointing when you are 1-0 up late on you should see it out and we didn't manage to do that". And it was one time we didn't close Alex Iwobi and he plays the pass for the goal. "You are working, you are winning this confidence every day, then your quality is there to be better in each match".
