ThemeThis year, the World Mental Health Day theme is "Young People and Mental Health in a changing world".

Community health workers, GPs, peers, teachers, and clergy should all play a role, the report said.

The event runs alongside the Open Shutters exhibition in Gallery Oldham, a collection of 32 photographic portraits celebrating people who have taken strength and positivity from their mental health journeys. Also as per World Health Organization, half of all mental illness begins by the age of 14, but most cases go undetected and untreated.

"Most people with depression are not suicidal, but most suicidal people are depressed, hence the importance of knowing the symptoms of depression", she said. Ms Doyle-Price, now Minister for Mental Health, Inequalities and Suicide Prevention, will ensure every local area has effective plans in place to stop unnecessary deaths and investigate how technology can help identify those most at risk.

Women were more likely to experience mental disorders (22%) than men (18%), with a higher rate of anxiety disorders (18% compared to 11% for men) and affective disorders (7% and 5%).

Meanwhile, Health Secretary Matt Hancock is hosting the first ever Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit in London, attended by ministers and representatives from over 50 countries as well as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Mental health is a critical component of health and that is why health is referred to as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, according to WHO.
