Kavanaugh wrongly claims he could drink legally in Md

"That's not happened, is that your answer?" Kavanaugh's response beggared belief: "I don't know".

"Yeah, and I'm curious if you have", Kavanaugh said.

Kavanaugh later apologized to Klobuchar for his remarks.

Kavanaugh mentioned his appreciation for the yeasty beverage during his opening statement to the committee, almost an hour after Christine Blasey Ford finished telling the committee about the evening she says he attempted to rape her when they were in high school. "I would like to add, when you have a parent that's an alcoholic, you're pretty careful about drinking". "Yes, we drank beer, boys and girls".

And yet Kavanaugh was emphatic about never passing out. Amy Klobuchar about his drinking habits.

Whatever did or did not happen between Kavanaugh and Ford, this much we know: As a teenager and young man, Kavanaugh drank illegally, and sometimes he drank too much. Nor was that a common experience in my social circle, although I can't speak for Kavanaugh's. "We drank beer, I like beer", Kavanaugh said. I drank a lot in college, too much on more than a few occasions, but never found myself in a situation where I could not remember what had happened the night before or needed other people's help to piece it together. "So, that's not happened, is that your answer?"

On Friday, the White House argued that any claim Kavanaugh had said he was legally allowed to consume beer during high school is inaccurate and that he "never suggested that all of his high school drinking was of legal age", said White House spokesman Raj Shah. "Nor do I", he said.

Klobuchar's questions centered around allegations made from James Roche, Kavanaugh's roommate when the two were students during their freshman year at Yale University.

He also told Fox News in his interview Monday: "Yes, there were parties, and yes, the drinking age was 18". Roche said he was inclined to believe Ramirez and thought Kavanaugh was capable of behaving that way. After describing her father's longtime struggle with alcoholism, Klobuchar started asking Kavanaugh if he ever drank too much and blacked out.

"You should look at what I said. you should assess his credibility with that in mind", Kavanaugh said.

"What I think Sen".

She said she also thinks the Federal Bureau of Investigation should question Kavanaugh friend Mark Judge, who Ford says was in the room when Kavanaugh had attacked her.

"Sorry I did that, this is a tough process", he added. "I'm sorry about that".

"I appreciate that", Klobuchar said. "I was truly just trying to get to the bottom of the facts and the evidence".
