Twin girls among the dead in Perth house

Twin two-year-old girls, a three and a half-year-old girl, their mother and grandmother have been confirmed as deceased.

A neighbour, who only wanted to be known as Alfie, said police arrived at the home on Sunday banging on back doors and jumping fences.

A man in his 20s turned himself to a regional police station on Sunday, ahead of police going to the home where they discovered the bodies around midday.

At the time of the statement, the Homicide Squad and teams of detectives were on ground, accompanied by specialist forensic police.

"Depending on the size of that crime scene that will take a period of time, and it could be a number of days", Assistant Commissioner Metropolitan Region Paul Steel said. "It is safe, we have grown up all our lives and this is just so sad and horrific".

"This is a tragic event and it will no doubt have an impact not only the family and friends of the deceased but for the whole of the community, those first repsonders who are faced with attending a scene with multiple deceased people", he said.

"She was such a handsome person and such a go getter and hard worker", she said.

A distraught neighbour near the scene said she often saw children playing in the front yard of the house.

Mr Steel said it was still unclear how long the bodies had been at the house before they were discovered.

"They were a flawless family. this is a handsome neighbourhood, it's quiet", Alfie said.

"The scene has not yet been forensically examined so the exact number of adults and children is actually unknown to me", Steel said.

"We are a very close community, we have a high school just a few hundred metres and the street is always so calm and peaceful".

"She was pretty unlucky in love before she met him", a friend told WA Today.

The deaths follow the murder of a mother and her two children in Ellenbrook in July, and the Margaret River mass shooting that left seven people dead in May.

A grandfather shot dead his wife, daughter and her four children in murder-suicide in May.

When officers went to the house, they found Michelle Petersen and her son, Rua, dead, and her daughter Bella in a critical condition.
