Lawyers expect 2nd Manafort trial to take about 2 weeks

Ms O'Connor's tweet came on a dramatic day of developments in US politics, as the New York Times reported, "Michael D. Cohen, President Trump's former lawyer, made the extraordinary admission in court on Tuesday that Mr. Trump had directed him to arrange payments to two women during the 2016 campaign to keep them from speaking publicly about affairs they said they had with Mr. Trump".

One of them said the immunity agreement was restricted to Weisselberg's grand jury testimony last month in the Cohen case, specifically the allegations that Cohen paid hush money to two women who claimed affairs with Trump.

The required filing is a road map of the next trial facing President Trump's former campaign chairman, convicted Tuesday in federal court in Alexandria on eight of 18 tax- and bank-fraud charges after a trial that focused on Manafort's finances.

Cohen, the Journal reported, was likely referring to creating a shell company to make a payment in return for silence, presumably regarding former Playboy model Karen McDougal.

The Trump Organization has not commented on the reports, which first emerged in the Wall Street Journal.

Lawyer Alan Dershowitz thinks President Trump should be more anxious about federal prosecutors in NY than about the Russian Federation investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller.

Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell brushed past reporters Wednesday without answering questions about Cohen or the possibility that the lawyer's accusations about an illegal campaign cover-up are grounds for impeachment proceedings against Trump.

"I don't think I've witnessed anything like I've witnessed over the past year and a half".

The prospect of Cohen telling Mueller that Trump knew in advance about the June 2016 meeting has hung over the Russian Federation probe since CNN, citing anonymous sources, reported last month that Cohen was willing to share the information.

The Cohen investigation was referred to federal prosecutors in NY by US special counsel Robert Mueller, who is looking into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible co-ordination between Trump's Republican campaign and Russian officials.

"I don't think we should be talking about it and embracing it before we've seen the full body of evidence", Schiff, a former prosecutor, said of impeaching the president.

They're the ultimate insiders, but the lawyers speaking publicly on behalf of President Donald Trump and his longtime "fixer"-turned-foe Michael Cohen have been fumbling the facts of late".

Giuliani also has misspoken about the Trump Tower meeting.

It is not clear whether Weisselberg told government prosecutors that the president was aware of the payments. "I express my regrets that I could not confirm what I told you", he said. "And they're looking very, very hard", Dershowitz said. Separately, the NY state attorney general has filed a civil lawsuit against the Trump foundation, Trump's purported charity. Gonzales said that while Trump is entitled to speak his mind, his apparent sympathy for Manafort puts him at odds with his own Justice Department.
