Wolves’ attacking verve offers new approach to facing Manchester City

Wolves won plaudits for their courageous performance on Saturday when they claimed a 1-1 draw against last season's champions as they became only City's third opponents since the beginning of last season to register double figures in efforts on goal.

They took the lead early in the second half through a controversial Boly goal, and although Aymeric Laporte's header salvaged a point for City, this was a terrific showing from Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

Despite his criticism of the referee, Gundogan is no supporter of VAR, which Premier League clubs voted against introducing this season back in April.

Both sides had opportunities to win it in the closing stages, with City nearly snatching three points when Aguero's free-kick glanced off the bar with virtually the last kick of the game.

"In pre-season always the players are "okay, we'll do it because it is pre-season".

Manchester City had many chances that would have helped them to win this match and Wolverhampton fans will have goalkeeper Rul Patricio to thank who denied Pep Guardiola's men the victory as the match ended 1-1.

Southampton's hard start continued with Harry Maguire's stoppage-time victor seeing Leicester City earn a 2-1 comeback win, a victory that will have brought much pleasure to visiting manager Claude Puel on his return to his former club.

It's a good point for each, I think.

When he was given the chance to trundle off the bench, the 22-year-old misplaced several balls that would have been welded to his foot last term and was unable to contribute much to his side's efforts at breaking down a meticulously organised home side.

"We are happy with the first three points after two defeats, but it's clear we need to improve", said a far from fully satisfied Emery.

"This is the game, this is what we have to be ready for".

"In the past two weeks in training I've seen the Leroy that I know and we know".

"A lot of people are going to drop points here".

"Unfortunately for us it was not like that and we conceded a goal".

And Huddersfield and Cardiff showed why they are favourites to be relegated in a 0-0 devoid of quality with Jonathan Hogg's dismissal the only action of note.
