Whitmer and Schuette Win Michigan Governor’s Nominations

Schuette was the only candidate to get President Donald Trump's endorsement. Calley, who was supported by Snyder but withdrew his support for Trump in 2016, touted economic gains under their watch and accused Schuette of illegally misusing his office to advance his political career and wrongly prosecuting top state officials for Flint's water crisis.

The candidates running for governor of MI are already looking ahead to November. The number of female House nominees is at least 185 nationwide and stands at 10 in MI, which also are records. That is almost 28 percent higher than the 1.7 million who turned out in 2002, which is believed to be the previous MI midterm primary record.

The Republican National Committee released a new ad on Friday mocking Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, highlighting numerous false and outrageous claims she has made in recent interviews.

Calling Gretchen Whitmer the most liberal member of anything is something her Democratic competitors would have contested during the primary.

"Women leaders use our platforms and our power to make sure that we are being representative, that we are making decisions with all voices around the table", Whitmer said. "It's not very often that we overperform them in primary turnout, especially when you have equally competitive primaries on both sides".

Throughout her campaign, Whitmer has argued that she's a progressive with a track record.

Their victories, reported by The Associated Press, set up deep ideological clashes in state's most prominent general election races in November.

Voters in MI also decided two other primary races. He beat out the three other candidates with about 50 percent of the vote. John James and Sandy Pensler squared off in a GOP primary for the chance to face Democratic Sen. Party activists will choose attorney general and secretary of state nominees at a convention in late August, and Schuette said Wednesday his running mate will be a woman.

"Alright, can she name any of them?" he added. Patrick Colbeck and Dr. Jim Hines in the GOP primary.

"Miss Ocasio-Cortez, I'm really excited that you've been elevated to that position and I would love to have a real conversation with you about the issues".
