Torreira was waiting for the World Cup to conclude, but with Uruguay now out he is free to make his move to London.

That is the claim of the player's father.

Torreira, 22, has confirmed that he is flying to London for a medical with the Gunners in an opportunity he says he "can't waste".

Torreira will become Arsenal's fourth summer signing but, according to his father Ricardo, will not think about any move until after Uruguay's stay in Russian Federation comes to an end.

Speaking to Fox Argentina, Ricardo Torreira said his son's move to the Emirates Stadium would go through "if nothing odd happens".

"I was very happy to leave for Uruguay with my team-mates", Torreira told Telenoche, having helped his nation reach the quarter-finals in Russian Federation.

"The deal is virtually done and only the arrival of Lucas is remaining". With one year left on his current contract, Lorient felt it was the right time to sell, and multiple clubs have been in talks with the player since January, according to RMC.

Unai Emery's overhaul of the Arsenal squad looks to have picked up pace as the highly-rated French youth worldwide Matteo Guendouzi is close to joining the club from Lorient in a £7M deal.

Guendouzi, who made 21 club appearances last summer, is reportedly set to sign a four-year deal with the Gunners.

New signings of Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, and Stephan Lichtsteiner improves Emery's arsenal of defensive options.
