Jordan army says several ISIL fighters killed in border clashes

The Israeli military said it launched an air strike near a ceasefire line separating Israeli and Syrian sides of a demilitarised zone.

An Israeli aircraft "struck those seven suspects, and today in searches that have been completed on the ground by Israeli troops we found seven bodies in that location, we found five AK-47 assault rifles, we found explosive vests as well as what appears to be grenades", Conricus said. Gen. Nitzan Nuriel, former head of the Counterterror Bureau at Israel's Prime Minister's office, said Israel should be on alert in the area because Syrian government troops "from now and a year from now, they will not be able to control those who are trying to attack the State of Israel from that border".

Israel has killed seven Syrian fighters it believed were about to carry out an attack on the Golan Heights for Islamic State.

During their summit in Helsinki, Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump said they were exploring ways to protect Israel from the war in Syria. "It seems as if they were moving in a combat formation, with combat equipment".

Initial findings show they were linked to IS but it remains unconfirmed, said Conricus.

"We will not let anyone to change that cease-fire agreement from "74 [according to which only United Nations forces can be in the 'grey area" between Israel and Syria] and those seven people were inside that grey are which is unacceptable", he said.

It has also pledged to prevent Iran from entrenching itself militarily in Syria and a series of recent strikes that have killed Iranians in Syria have been attributed to Israel.

Confrontations with IS-linked fighters have been more rare.

The peacekeeping mission was halted in 2014, over security concerns, amid the violence in Syria's civil war.

The air force then bombed the vehicle carrying the gunmen, identified as members of the Yarmouk Martyrs' Brigade, a Syrian rebel group that pledged allegiance to IS.

On Monday, the pro-Assad coalition in Syria finally finished off the last pockets of Islamist resistance along the Israeli border on the Golan Heights after a six-week-long campaign which included the "liberation" of the Daraa and Kuneitra provinces in southwest Syria.
