Nothing new in Russian indictment, but Utahns still see cause for concern

The Deputy Attorney General said that Russian military intelligence, the GRU, participated in efforts to infiltrate the computer networks to obtain damaging information about Clinton and the DNC, which was then dumped online, Efe reported. The hackers launched a successful spearphishing attack against senior officials for the Hillary Clinton campaign and released over 19,000 confidential emails and files through WikiLeaks.

Rosenstein said he briefed Trump about the indictment before Friday's announcement and that the timing was determined by "the facts, the evidence, and the law". "Look, [Deputy Attorney General Rod] Rosenstein said in his comments that they knew of no crime by USA citizens".

But the decision to specifically highlight Stone's communications with Guccifer 2.0 in court papers raises new questions about Mueller's interest in Stone's activities.

In his Friday night interview, Stone continued to say he does not believe Russian Federation behind the hacking of the 2016 election.

Before Friday, Mueller's group had charged 20 people and three companies in its investigation.

Earlier Friday, Stone said in a statement to CBS News and other outlets that he has already testified on the Guccifer 2.0 exchange, and the exchange provides no evidence of collaboration or collusion.

Republican Senator John McCain said the summit should be called off if Trump is not ready to warn Putin there is a "serious price to pay for his ongoing aggression towards the United States and democracies around the world".

They also hacked into a national election vendor that supplied software used to verify voter registration information. "The use of bitcoin allowed the conspirators to avoid direct relationships with traditional financial institutions, allowing them to evade greater scrutiny of their identities and sources of funds", the indictment said.

The dates and content of the messages described in the indictment between the USA person in regular contact with senior members of Trump's presidential campaign and Guccifer 2.0 match verbatim two screenshots Stone published on his website in March of 2017 of the direct message exchange he had with Guccifer 2.0 on Twitter in 2016.

"I think it is unlikely to be me because I never have any communication with anyone in the Trump camp regarding my one-time communication with somebody claiming to be Guccifer 2.0", said Stone.

"According to the allegations in the indictment, the defendants worked for two units of the main intelligence directorate of the Russian general staff, known as the GRU".

One attempt at interference came hours after Trump, in a July 27, 2016, speech, suggested Russians look for emails that Clinton said she had deleted from her tenure as secretary of state.

Mueller has secured indictments against several former Trump campaign aides, including former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, said on Twitter that it was time to end the Mueller investigation since "no Americans are involved" in Friday's indictment.
