Amazon Prime Day gets bigger, longer as retailer hunts for new subscribers

Prime members shopping in-store can take an additional 10 percent off hundreds of sales items and will receive other deep discounts on popular products, Amazon says. Here are all the details! From the 30-hour duration in 2017, time will be extended up to 36 hours-up to the 17th of July.

Amazon said sales from its Prime Day event past year surpassed Black Friday and Cyber Monday, growing by more than 60 percent from 2016.

Jeff Wilke, Amazon CEO Worldwide Consumer explains, "Prime members will enjoy a day (and a half) of our best deals, with 36 hours to shop more than one million deals worldwide".

The first Amazon Prime Day in Australia starts at 12pm AEST on the 16th of July and runs through until midnight on the 17th of July.

While Amazon wouldn't release specific numbers, the company said the number of Canadian Prime Members doubled in the last 18 months and more Canadians have joined in the past 12 months than any other year.

While Twitch Prime gives away free games every month, the service is offering a staggering 21 games during the month of July.

Meanwhile, Amazon's virtual assistant app Alexa could once again be on hand to help bargain hunters after handing out cryptic responses and Easter eggs on deals during last year's sale.

Along with online, Amazon will offer Prime deals in its brick and mortar shops-Whole Foods and Amazon Books.

Amazon's biggest annual sales event, Prime Day, will launch in Singapore for the first time this year.
