LeBron James would 'let the roster come together' for Lakers — Rival GM

ESPN's report on Wednesday pointed out that Paul George signing with the Lakers is no longer viewed as a lock, meaning the organization may not be able to wait until next summer for Leonard-who can opt out of his contract in 2019-if it wants to sign James.

While Magic Johnson plays it cool regarding his chances to add major free agents to the Los Angeles Lakers, pressure to create his own superteam in L.A. may be mounting behind the scenes. However, the latest Vegas odds have the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers as the favorites to land Leonard.

Paul George will give fans an inside look at his offseason and looming free agency with a three-part series on SportsCenter, ESPN announced on Monday. If the Spurs aren't willing to trade Leonard within the Western Conference, Kawhi may have to get creative with his preferences. He wants to be traded, but only to the Los Angeles Lakers or Los Angeles Clippers.

Sports Illustrated's Robin Lundberg published a leaked copy of the Lakers' pitch to All-Star forward George on Monday afternoon, which is part of the team's bid to sign him during the upcoming free agency period.

"Here they have made a huge risk in trading for me, knowing I have one year on my deal", George says of the Thunder. Leonard and James would be quite the formidable duo, and there's no doubt they and the rest of the team would reach their full potential under head coach Gregg Popovich. If he's serious about his employment with the team, swinging a deal for Leonard would make him a man of his word. When healthy, Leonard has proven to be one of the league's top players, and always seems capable of being in the conversation for the MVP award, which is why it really isn't a surprise to see all these teams expressing interest. That could play into the patient strategy Johnson is professing, but the Lakers may have to push their chips to the center of the table much sooner than they might prefer, if they want to make James's Friday decision that much easier.
