India's Yoga Day celebration draws 'record 10000' enthusiasts in Dhaka

As millions around the world celebrated the fourth International Yoga Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoped that yoga can become a "binding force" for the world, asserting it has no religion and contributes to the physical and mental well-being of individuals.

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev led a gathering in the western state of Rajasthan, whose chief minister said it was the largest group yoga event. Practicing yoga regularly keeps oneself calm, mood swings and fatigue would be balanced and the quality of life will be significantly improved.

While calling the Modi's proposal at the United Nations for holding an International Yoga Day "historic", Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said yoga not only leads to wellness but also happiness.

It is born of an "awareness of the unsatisfactory character of the human condition", says India specialist Tara Michael, author of the book "Yoga" published in France in 1980. "In a distracted world, yoga helps focus", Modi said in another video released on Twitter this week. "Our chefs have always encouraged healthy eating as a way to aid our evolving lifestyle and this is one more occasion where through the Yoga session, we emphasize focus on maintaining individual wellness".

The Prime Minister participated in the Yoga Day celebrations at Rajpath in New Delhi in 2015, the Capitol Complex in Chandigarh in 2016 and at the Ramabai Ambedkar Sabha Sthal in Lucknow in 2017.
