Google will begin rolling out the highly demanded feature in its messaging app which is "Messages for web" from today.

You can send text, stickers, emoji, and attach images. In April, Google's plans for turning Android Messages into something of an iMessage competitor were revealed.

Android's Messages for Web is finally here.

Messages for web is another push toward RCS (Rich Communication Services), which is what Google will need to compete with other messaging solutions that are more feature-packed than just SMS and MMS, like iMessages, Facebook Messenger, and more. Allo was one swing at that goal, but Google is pausing all efforts and investment in that failed app and betting that Android Messages - the out-of-box default messaging app on many smartphones - represents its best chance at success. Its rival Apple already has a separate Podcasts app for its mobile devices and Google is now following suit with a dedicated Podcasts app for Android.

Very soon, you will be able to send SMSes straight from your desktop browser. To get started, users must open "Messages for web" in Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge (not available on Internet Explorer) and, using their smartphone, scan the QR code.

How does Android Messages work on desktop?

Google announced a year ago it is working with the mobile industry to bring SMS into the modern day, through a universal standard called RCS (Rich Communications Services).

Android Messages for web now lets you text from PC and Mac. Your Phone app is the company's latest solution which allows users to continue the tasks on PC without ever having to touch the phone. From the left, you can tap New conversations to search for a contact and start a new message thread with them.

The ability to send a text message from a computer is something you probably don't think about until you need to do it. To avoid getting charged for data while using this feature, be sure to connect your phone to Wi-Fi.
