PUBG vs. Fortnite - Fighting for the Title of the Best Royale Game

Instead of paying for the game, "Fortnite" players have the choice of paying for the game's "Battle Pass" - a system of challenges that unlock various in-game items - or outright buying items for their characters.

Its most popular format, Battle Royale, pits 100 players against each other, some of whom are in small teams, to see who is the last person standing. Every spot in the Fortnite World Cup, the seasons capstone event, will be earned via these events and no spot will be available for purchase or handed out to organizations.

"We'll be supporting community organized events, online events, and major organized competitions all over the world, where anyone can participate, and anyone can win", the post stated. Also, the no-blood feature from Fortnite might gain some points for this game.

According to Epic Games, the World Cup itself will focus on Solos and Duos.

While a Switch port of Fortnite was more or less an inevitability given the game's massive success, rumors of an E3 release started swirling earlier this month when a listing for the game appeared on the Korean Ratings Board website.

Qualifiers for what Epic is calling the Fortnite World Cup will begin this fall, with the finals to be held in 2019. For continual updates on the game's server status you can check back here.

Additionally, when the broadcast attempted to cut to a replay of a game-winning elimination in the first match, it instead cut to the winner's character doing Fortnite's "Take The L" emote dance for an extended period.

With the World Cup already under way, you can expect the Fortnite World Cup skins to pop up in the store sometime very soon.

If you want to dig into the minutiae of the game's Switch performance, VG Tech has also prepared a document breaking down total frame amounts, frame time counts, screen tearing, and more. For players who prefer gaming in TV mode, they will need headphones with longer wires or use an extension of some kind.
