Anthony Bourdain: Vietnam noodle bar owner's shock at chef's death

Bourdain died in France where he was working on an upcoming episode of esteemed CNN series, Parts Unknown.

In 2016, Bourdain spoke with CBS News' Anthony Mason.

The beloved food documentarian was found unresponsive in his Kaysersberg, France hotel room the morning of June 8.

CNN yesterday reported that Bourdain was found dead in his hotel room of suspected suicide.

Bourdain's award-winning series, "Parts Unknown", brought the world home to CNN viewers.

What a loss indeed. But it was Bourdain's writing that first cemented his place as a storyteller.

The Bun Cha Huong Lien restaurant in the Vietnamese capital's leafy Old Quarter soared to fame after the 2016 sit-down between Obama and Bourdain for the latter's CNN show.

During his acceptance speech, he said his team travels the world, asking simple questions.

After Bourdain's death, Schonstein posted a photo of the chef dining at the restaurant, writing, "What a pleasure to have met you".

The table where the pair sat and ate, complete with dinner set and empty beer bottles, was later encased in glass and placed on display at the restaurant.

"He praised our bun cha dish and its fish-sauce broth, he loved Vietnamese food", she said. "RIP anh [brother] Tony". People may see behavior indicating suicidal thoughts and dismiss it as "just a phase". "We do so much with auto accidents that kill a comparable number of people, why are we not doing more about suicide? They said we're going to eat the same thing as Mr. Bourdain", Schroeder said. According to her, Bourdain was giddy a week before his death in France.

"A lot of people think that there are many more homicides that suicides, and that's simply incorrect", he said.

"Yes, I have been very blessed to have crossed paths with you in this attractive life. It's someplace that everyone, given the chance, should go".

"His travel schedule was gruelling, and he often seemed quite beat-up from it, as anyone would be", said the source, described by the magazine as having worked closely with Bourdain in the past year. He was dating actress and director Asia Argento at the time of his death.

"I stand unhesitatingly and unwaveringly with the women", he wrote on in a 2017 essay on Medium.

"I would have had a different answer a few years ago".

He also clapped back at the country's growing anti-immigrant, especially anti-Mexican, sentiment.

As a result of these findings, his agency wants to close the case and get Bourdain's body returned to the U.S. "To make us a little less afraid of the unknown", Barack Obama tweeted. Dick Codey (D-Essex), a longtime advocate for mental health, has called for more funding, training, and other support for local providers to help reduce the suicide numbers, particularly among teens.

Malaysia's very own celebrity chef Datuk Redzuawan Ismail, better known as Chef Wan, recalled how he tried to make Bourdain laugh during their time together when filming Bourdain's show, "No Reservation".
