Krispy Kreme: The chain offers each customer a choice of any free doughnut, no purchase required.

Duck Donuts: Get a free classic donut! On Friday, get a free doughnut and from June 2-6 any size or combo is buy-one-get-one free. No purchase necessary. This is available only at participating shops across the US and Canada.

Papa John's: A free order of caramel-crème-filled doughnut holes with any online pizza order.

Duffy's Sports Grill: Free order of Red Velvet Mini Donuts per table at Miami Beach and Kendall locations.

National Doughnut Day was originally established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.

National Doughnut Day will be celebrated tomorrow, June 1.

Papa John's: This pizza chain is launching a new dessert on National Doughnut Day: warm doughnut holes. Anyone wearing Sugar Shack gear on Friday, June 1, gets a free house donut as well. Edible Arrangements is offering a free, cored Granny Smith apple covered in chocolate and other toppings, as well.

Merritt's Bakery is also helping The Salvation Army celebrate Donut Day by giving 20 per cent of all donut sales that day to The Salvation Army.

Walmart: Every single store in America will be giving away free donuts to customers.

Check with the Peace, Love and Little Donuts location closest to you to find out what deals they're offering! Baked goods couldn't survive the conditions of the huts and limited rations, so two volunteers conjured up the idea to fry the doughnuts in soldiers' helmets.
