Spain’s Dani Carvajal still hoping to play at World Cup

Real Madrid also lost a player a few minutes later as Carvajal pulled up injured and was replaced by Nacho Fernandez.

If Carvajal is ruled out it will be a huge blow for the 26-year-old, who missed the 2016 European Championship with a similar injury sustained during the 2015-16 Champons League final against Atlético in Milan.

Dani Carvajal will remain with the Spain squad ahead of the World Cup as he races to recover in time for the World Cup after suffering a hamstring injury during Saturday's Champions League final.

The Spaniard Sergio Ramos checks on Mohamed Salah during the Champions League showdown. In their twisting fall, Salah landed heavily on his left shoulder and exited the match in Kiev, Ukraine, after just 30 minutes.

Salah was forced off in the first-half with a shoulder injury after he was pulled down by Madrid captain Sergio Ramos and Wijnaldum admitted after the match that Salah's injury affected the Reds performance. He left with his arm in a sling, his Liverpool team defeated and his World Cup in jeopardy. The Egypt team is optimistic he can return for the World Cup.

That injury has cast a shadow on Salah's participation in FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russian Federation.

Salah didn't join his Liverpool teammates collecting their runners-up medals.

Karim Benzema scored the opener in fortuitous circumstances for Los Blancos and while Sadio Mane momentarily restored parity, Gareth Bale scored a quick fire double to ensure Real's three-peat.

He was Egypt's top scorer during their World Cup qualification campaign, and ensured they qualified for Russian Federation via a dramatic injury time penalty which solidified his status as a national hero.

"He's been scoring goals all this season and in all competitions - in the Champions League, in cups and in the Premier League".
