Movie producer Weinstein charged with rape, sex abuse against two women

Numerous women, including several celebrities, have come forward with allegations that Weinstein repeatedly engaged in unwanted, inappropriate and aggressive sexual behavior since reports of his serial misconduct first surfaced past year.

Weinstein has previously denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex. His travel will be restricted and he will surrender his passport, The New York Times reported.

"Today, at the NYPD's 1st Precinct, Harvey Weinstein was arrested, processed and charged with rape, criminal sex act, sex abuse and sexual misconduct for incidents involving two separate women", read a statement from the New York City Police Department.

The former mogul - once the toast of Hollywood and whose films won scores of Oscars - was escorted out of a Manhattan police station in handcuffs and was expected to appear in court later on Friday.

Asked what she'd say to Weinstein if she had the chance to confront him now, she answered, "We got you".

Mr Weinstein was released on a $1m bail bond.

Defence attorney Ben Brafman told reporters that his client would plead not guilty and still denied any non-consensual sexual activity.

Our sources say prosecutors are looking at at least one actress whom Weinstein flew from one state to another.

The Weinstein case now enters a new stage. "The NYPD thanks these fearless survivors for their courage to come forward and seek justice".

McGowan expressed her appreciation of Weinstein accuser Lucia Evans, who alleged that Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him in 2004.

At the time, Weinstein hired high-powered defense attorneys to shut down the charges, also employing K2 Intelligence, an intelligence firm specializing in corporate investigations and security.

After actresses Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan went on record with specific and horrific allegations against the producer, the list of accusers grew alarmingly.

"I said, over and over, 'I don't want to do this, stop, don't, ' " she said. "It's just the beginning of that process and if we can see this through to the end, I hope we emerge victorious".

The public allegations against Weinstein helped prompt a broad public reckoning about sexual misconduct.

It was a carefully choreographed performance.

"You sorry, Harvey?" came a shout from a throng of media as he was led into a Lower Manhattan courthouse.

The Kazan book came out in 2005, the Rodgers and Hammerstein book this spring.

But this is not the norm in sexual assault cases, and it's nearly never the norm in harassment cases. Some have alleged rape.

Those disheartened by that perceived reality could theoretically derive satisfaction from seeing these high-profile figures relegated to pariah status.

Actress Ashley Judd is suing the Hollywood producer, claiming he damaged her career after she rejected his sexual advances.

McGowan expressed her joy over Weinstein's arrest on Instagram when news first started to break on the matter on Thursday. In October 2015, Vance Jr. declined to press charges after an investigation into whether Weinstein groped Italian model Ambra Battilana. The Weinstein Co's board fired him and the company filed for bankruptcy in March. "The fact that our voices have made a difference means so much to me and to all of us who spoke out in the MeToo movement". She received half a million responses in 24 hours. She told BBC, "Twenty years ago, I swore that I would right this wrong". We stand with them, and remain in solidarity with women everywhere who have faced unsafe and abusive workplaces.

The reports gave rise to the #MeToo movement on social media.
