During a morning press conference, Noblesville Police Chief Kevin Jowitt said a male student at the middle school has been detained in the shooting that injured an adult teacher and another student at Noblesville West Middle School.

She confirmed what I heard from another person who lives nearby that this was in a science classroom and that a science teacher may have been the one to literally tackle this kid and swat the gun away from him.

He says the teacher "immediately ran at him, swatted a gun out of his hand and tackled him to the ground".

Jeremy Seaman said he wasn't surprised his brother, a former defensive end for Southern Illinois University, put his own safety at risk on behalf of his students.

Two people - a teacher and a student - were hurt after a male suspect excused himself from class Friday morning before returning with two handguns, authorities said.

In a Facebook post, a woman claiming to be Seaman's mother claimed he was shot three times.

Indiana State Police Sergeant John Perrine said the families of the victims have been notified and the students were being taken to Noblesville High School, where parents could pick up their children. More information about the Noblesville school shooting will be provided by the Inquisitr as it becomes available.

The teacher and a student were injured in the shooting. "I went into this little room in the back with three other people", he said calmly standing between his parents as they picked him up.

Vice President Mike Pence, who is from IN, said on Twitter he and his wife, Karen, are "praying for the victims of the awful shooting". The student was taken to Riley Hospital for Children, and we're told by other students she is a 13-year-old girl.

The suspect is believed to have acted alone and was taken into custody.

The teacher was identified as Jason Seaman by the Indianapolis Star and other local media. He also has been a football coach for seventh-graders for two years. I want to let everyone know that I was injured but am doing great. "You are the reason I teach".

Please pray for my son Jason. Is out of surgery and in good condition.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected by this disgusting situation", he said, adding that about 100 State Police officers had been made available to work with local responders.

No information has been released on the shooter, though initial reports suggested it was a student at the school. To all the students, you are all wonderful & I thank you for your support.

The reaction contrasted with the response to a February shooting at Florida's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Noblesville, which is about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of Indianapolis, is home to about 50,000 people.

Jowitt said the middle school has now been cleared by several EMS units and the scene is secure.
