Walmart's Online Sales Grew by 33 Percent Amid Aggressive E-Commerce Push

Finally, Goldman Sachs reissued a "buy" rating and set a $99.00 price target on shares of Walmart in a research report on Monday, April 16th. Walmart Inc., formerly known as Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., is headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas.

Among 20 analysts covering Wal-Mart Stores (NYSE:WMT), 10 have Buy rating, 0 Sell and 10 Hold. Walmart presently has a consensus rating of "Buy" and an average price target of $101.61. Walmart has a fifty-two week low of $84.78 and a fifty-two week high of $85.92.

The company P/E (price to earnings) ratio is 26.9 and Forward P/E ratio is 16.65.

Now the return on equity is 13.00% and its debt to equity is 0.60. The stock fell -5.34 percent over the past six months.

Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) saw its stock drop on Thursday despite releasing a strong earnings report for the first quarter of fiscal 2019. But the key earnings per share measure was $1.14, 2c higher than expected. Net profit margin of the company was recorded at 2 percent, operating profit margin was 3.5 percent, while gross profit margin stands at 25.4 percent. The business had revenue of $135.15 billion during the quarter, compared to the consensus estimate of $133.63 billion.

Shares in the company closed down 1.9 per cent in NY, well down from the start of the year.

While Walmart Inc.'s total revenue and U.S. comparable-store sales and comp traffic all grew in its first quarter of fiscal 2019, the biggest result was the mega-retailer's surge in ecommerce sales, which contributed about 100 basis points to Walmart U.S. comps growth, with strength in home delivery and online grocery, for an impressive 33 percent spike.

The firm also recently disclosed a quarterly dividend, which will be paid on Wednesday, January 2nd.

A number of other institutional investors have also recently modified their holdings of the stock.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT) now has a Weekly Volatility of 1.67% percent while its Monthly Volatility is at 1.72% percent. Walmart's quarterly revenue was up 4.2% compared to the same quarter a year ago.

Walmart's total revenue was $122.7 billion, an increase of $5.1 billion, or 4.4 percent (excluding currency, total revenue came to $120.7 billion, a rise of $3.2 billion, or 2.7 percent).

USA first-quarter same-store sales rose 2.1% at the company's supercenter and discount stores, and comparable-store traffic rose 0.8%. Hanseatic Management Services Inc. now owns 1,201 shares of the retailer's stock valued at $107,000 after acquiring an additional 618 shares in the last quarter. "We also have new brands in e-commerce including the partnership with Lord & Taylor, so there are a lot of different things driving growth there", said the Chief Financial Officer of Walmart, Brett Biggs, in a CNBC interview. Finally, Stelac Advisory Services LLC purchased a new stake in shares of Walmart in the first quarter valued at approximately $126,000.
