Trump Tower transcripts released

A music promoter who promised Donald Trump Jr over email that a Russian lawyer would provide dirt about Hillary Clinton in June 2016 made the offer because he had been assured the Moscow attorney was "well connected" and had "damaging material", the promoter testified to the US Senate Judiciary Committee.

Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) said Wednesday that Democrats have been overreacting to a June 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer at Trump Tower.

About 2500 pages of documents were released on Wednesday, including the interviews with Trump jnr and Rob Goldstone, a music publicist who arranged the meeting and said in text messages it was part of a Russian government effort to aid the Trump campaign.

The transcripts say Trump Jr. didn't recall informing the president about the meeting, which has been a key focus of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation.

Transcripts confirm some of what the people involved have already said: That Donald Trump, Jr. was open to receiving dirt on Hillary Clinton during the presidential campaign.

"I believed it was a bad idea and that we shouldn't do it", Robert Goldstone told the Senate Judiciary Committee on December 15, 2017.

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday released a page of mysterious notes that the former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort jotted down during a June 2016 Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer.

Donald Trump Jr. says he was "candid and forthright" in answering questions by the Senate Judiciary Committee in the Russian Federation investigation. "I have no idea what this meeting was actually about". Natalia Veselnitskaya's testimony came in the form of written responses to a questionnaire, which is a marvel of two sides talking past each other.

The Senate committee's findings clash with the House GOP's determination that the intelligence community did not follow its own best practices in concluding the Kremlin favored Trump in the election. The subject line reads: "dt jr"-an obvious reference to Donald Trump Jr".

The statements further isolate the position of Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee, led by Devin Nunes. He refuted Republicans on the House committee who said Russian Federation did not aim to assist Trump, saying they now stand in "lonely isolation".

Trump has taken umbrage at the intelligence community's determination that the Kremlin favored his candidacy over Clinton's. They're trying to imply that the email had something to do with Russian Federation, but I can state declaratively that it had nothing to do with Russian Federation because I had no involvement there. The first is attempted coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation, and the second is possible obstruction of justice regarding the investigation into that potential collusion. Trump Jr. wrote Goldstone over email about the opposition research.

Trump Jr. told the committee that Goldstone had initially contacted him with the prospect of compromising information on Clinton, which he said he was "skeptical" about, but that he felt obligated to hold the meeting.

Quite a few questions have swirled across the controversial personal assembly because it first got here to mild, notably after the eldest Trump son's shifting tales in regards to the objective of the assembly after it grew to become identified to reporters.
