Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Delhi Daredevils by 9 wickets in the 42nd match of IPL season 11.

Courtesy a sublime 65 from the highly-talented Prithvi Shaw, Delhi put up a challenging 163 against Sunrisers in their away game at Hyderabad on May 5. Rishabh played an unbeaten 128 off 63 balls at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground.

Electing to bat, Delhi had themselves to blame for a sluggish start which saw them lose the opening duo of Prithvi Shaw (9) and Jason Roy (11) in consecutive deliveries before skipper Shreyas Iyer (3) departed off a silly run-out.

The inconsistent top order comprising the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Alex Hales and Manish Pandey need to shoulder the responsibility in case Williamson fails to deliver. SRH won the match and score was 191/1, 18.5 overs. SRH opener S Dhawan brought up his FIFTY off 30 deliveries.

In reply, Dhawan and Williamson stitched a match-winning 172 runs partnership for the second wicket to take Sunrisers through past the tricky total.

Williamson was at his belligerent best, finishing unbeaten with 83 runs from 53 balls, hitting eight fours and two sixes, while Dhawan at the other end was also not out with 92 runs to his name. The trio scored 65 per cent of the total runs in the last four matches to record two more wins and keep their hopes alive for playoffs. So, if Hyderabad manage to beat Delhi in the match 42 of the ongoing edition, they will mathematically seal qualification with as many as three games to spare. These runs are made with the sensational average of 52.10 and the strike rate of 179.65. Both shared a 176-run partnership for the second wicket to give the team victory.

But miscommunication once again took the better of Delhi as Pant, first deciding to go for a second run, quickly changed his mind to stay at the crease as Patel frantically tried to sprint back to safety only to fail miserably. He then continued to dominate his position on the field as he smashed four sixes and as many fours in the next four overs as he approached his century. Pant has also completed his 1,000 runs in the IPL.

Pacer Kaul too needed a forgettable outing as he conceded 48 conducts off his four overs.

Delhi would now look for some consolation wins in their remaining games and would thus try to end the season on a positive note by making certain upsets and disturbing the figures of the opposition teams.
