Blankenship bid divides West Virginia, as GOP primary rivals praise Trump intervention

Don Blankenship is a bad candidate who is now on his way to winning the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in West Virginia.

"Convicted criminal Don Blankenship didn't vote for President Trump and is a resident of Nevada, where he must report to his parole officer", he says in robocalls that started going out Saturday to potential voters.

West Virginia Democratic Sen. Blankenship is facing Representative Evan Jenkins and state Attorney General Patrick Morrisey to gain the party's nomination to run against incumbent Democrat Joe Manchin. "The establishment is misinforming him because they do not want me to be in the U.S. Senate and promote the president's agenda", Mr. Blankenship said.

That sense has been felt for weeks, not only in West Virginia but back in Washington, DC, where top Republicans have anxious Blankenship could win Tuesday's primary.

Many on the right are concerned if Blankenship wins the primary, he'll nearly certainly lose the general election to Democratic Sen.

The president had offered Moore his full-throated support in the days leading to the special election in the deep red Cotton State.

Both McCready and Manning have out-fundraised their opponents, Pittenger and GOP Rep.
