Lenovo-owned Motorola launched the Moto Z Play smartphone in India back in October 2016.

Moto Z Play users in India have started receiving Android 8.0 Oreo in India. The most expensive one, the G6, will cost $249.

And as with all Motorola phones, Google Photos is the default gallery for all your photos and videos. If yes, do share your initial impressions of the update with us.

Meanwhile, the Moto E5 Plus is the superior model between the two. At 5,000 mAh, we're relieved to know Motorola hasn't downsized it for the new phone.

Regardless of the smartphone, Motorola typically shines when it comes to software. It rocks a 6-inch 18:9 display on the front with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 technology. Plastic shouldn't be the buzzword for disappointment that it has become, but this particular application in the E5 Play isn't satisfying in a soft-touch kind of way, nor does it feel particularly sturdy. The E5 plus U.S. version comes with a LED flash on the front, while other variants won't have a front LED flash. Under-the-hood, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 SoC coupled with Adreno 505 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage, which is expanded up to 128GB via microSD. And it keeps getting better, instantly lock or unlock your phone with the multifunctional fingerprint reader. The phone runs Android 8.0 Oreo, out of the box.

What's the downside? That screen is not very sharp, and also not very bright. However, the E5 has a 5.7-inch display versus 5.2 on the Play. While the Moto E5 and Moto E5 Plus feature Max Vision 18:9 displays with screen-to-body ratio of over 80 percent, the Moto E5 Play comes with 16:9 display.

Like other Moto phones, it features P2i water-repellent nano coating.

I'm partial to smartphones that run clean versions of Android. It's being speculated that the new phones could be available in May or in June. The G6 phones will be available both from carriers and in unlocked, all-carrier models. Other specs take a hit too, including the display which gets a downgrade to 720p (1440x720) and a slower quad-core processor (Snapdragon 427).

Compared to the rest, the battery is small at 2,800mAh. While the fingerprint scanner sits at the rear panel, under the Motorola logo, the whole package is backed by a 4000mAh battery coupled with TurboCharge support.

There's no standout feature here on the Moto E5, but if the battery life is good and we find it to work well when running apps and games we use every day there may be a lot to love about the Moto E5.

On the new G6 there's a dual rear camera - 12MP & 5MP, f/1.8. You can create bokeh effects that you can alter before or after snapping the picture, and you can do a "selective black-and-white" that only maintains color in one part of the image.

Advanced imaging software means studio quality portraits, artistic black and white shots, and hilarious face filters come to life through the dual rear 5MP and 12MP cameras. Luckily, Moto G6 has a 5.7-inch, 2160×1080 (FHD+) LCD display with the trendy 18:9 aspect ratio. The Moto G6 Play is backed by a 4,000mAh battery but charges over standard micro-USB and supports 10W fast charging. The new devices are two each from the popular G-Series and the low-tier E-Series.
