UN Security Council Rejects Resolution Condemning US-Led Airstrikes in Syria

Further Russia and the USA engaged in a war of words over the collective decision of the UK, France and the United States to launch strikes on Syria on Saturday in response to the alleged use of chemical weapons last week in Douma that took the lives of more than 50 people including children.

A sarin attack triggered Trump's decision previous year to strike a Syrian air base. Could not have had a better result.

"Mission Accomplished!" Donald Trump wrote on Twitter.

Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White defended Trump's victory lap at a Saturday briefing.

White did not say which platforms the trolls have been active on, but the Russian government has actively fostered the spreading of fake news. They were very effective. "And they will go directly to any sort of companies that were dealing with equipment related to Assad and chemical weapons use". She says: "President Assad has an absolutely positive attitude, a good mood".

The Pentagon has said the strikes successfully hit the three chemical weapons facilities which were targeted.

"We are prepared to sustain this pressure if the Syrian regime is foolish enough to test our will", CNN reported she told the U.N. Security Council.

London and Washington have played down the prospect of further military action against Syria but Nikki Haley, the USA ambassador to the United Nations, said there would be fresh sanctions against Russian companies which have helped the Assad regime's chemical weapons programme.

President Donald Trump has expressed his intention to pull all U.S. forces out of Syria in the near future.

The three allies used ships, a submarine and warplanes to launch a barrage of 105 guided missiles towards three chemical weapons facilities in Syria, officials said, including a research center on the outskirts of Damascus. Assad has vehemently denied launching the chemical attack.

Guterres emphasised that there is no military solution to the Syrian crisis and the solution must be "political".

The Syrian air defences not only missed the incoming missiles but they kept firing even after the last US, British and French strikes were complete.

The allied attack set off a fierce global debate about whether it was justified.

"Without the sanction of the UN Security Council, in breach of the UN charter and the norms and principles of worldwide law, an act of aggression was committed against a sovereign state", the Kremlin said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared Israel's "full support" for Friday's US-led air strikes in Syria.The US, allied with France. Putin added that Russian military experts who inspected Douma found no trace of the attack.

Ahead of the latest strikes, Haley signalled in the Security Council on Friday that any action by Washington would not be in response to just the attack in Douma.

McKenzie defended the attacks in response to questions about the proof that Assad had used chemical weapons on civilians. "Public estimates are as high as 200", she said.

The statement also stressed that the "flames of such crime will engulf the perpetrators and supporters" of the attack on Syria. Syrian time, about 9 p.m.

Some protesters like David Mandel liken US involvement in Syria to the Iraq and Vietnam wars.

"Initial assessments are that this target was destroyed", he said.

The US Defence Department has said airstrikes on Syria had struck all of their targets and none of the coalition's planes or ship-launched missiles had been intercepted by President Bashar Al Assad's forces.

According to USA officials, the operation comprised three United States destroyers, a French frigate and a U.S. submarine.

"You can keep burning people alive and dropping barrel bombs over cities, but don't use chemical weapons, because it will make us look bad". "This is not about intervening in a civil war".

Soussan reiterated a pledge by the Syrian government that the chemical experts would be allow to investigate unimpeded.
