Cohen Arranged Payment for RNC Bigwig After Affair

Elliott Broidy, a prominent Republican fundraiser, resigned Friday from his position as a deputy finance chair of the Republican National Committee in the wake of a report that Michael Cohen, President Trump's personal lawyer, arranged for Broidy to pay $1.6 million to a former Playboy model who claimed that Broidy impregnated her past year. It is not known what type of personal injury claim the woman made.

The White House has also denied Trump had a relationship with McDougal. The woman became pregnant during the affair.

The deal was negotiated in late 2017 by Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's longtime lawyer who also serves on the RNC's finance committee, the Journal reported.

In a statement, Broidy admitted to the relationship but did not address whether he impregnated the woman.

"Mr. Cohen reached out to me after being contacted by this woman's attorney, Keith Davidson", Broidy said.

"First, I would like to sincerely apologize to my wife and family for the hurt that I have caused".

'I acknowledge I had a consensual relationship with a Playboy Playmate, ' Mr. Broidy said in a statement to the paper. The unidentified woman claimed Broidy got her pregnant. "She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy and I offered to help her financially during this hard period", he said. The New York Times reported in March that the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia had sought to build relationships with Broidy to influence Trump.

Attorneys for Cohen and Republican National Committee spokespersons, as well as lawyers for the former Playboy model, have not yet responded to CNBC's requests for comment.

The source says it allows the woman to speak about and take legal action concerning her alleged pregnancy if she so chooses.

The contract states that she had the right to seek child support payments if she chose to carry out the pregnancy, although she ultimately made a decision to have an abortion.

Broidy, who is married, is a close friend of Trump's and works on the RNC with Cohen.

According to the WSJ report, the sum of $1.6 million was due to be paid to the unnamed former Playboy model in quarterly installments over a period of two years. "The question about who violated the agreement has not yet been discussed". CNN has reported that Federal Bureau of Investigation agents were seeking communications between the President and Cohen concerning the "Access Hollywood" tape that surfaced prior to the 2016 presidential election. The deal provided for multiple payments across many months.

The revelation shines an even brighter light on Cohen, who is already under pressure after his office was raided by investigators seeking records related to payments to two women who claim they had sexual relationships with Trump. Cohen has acknowledged that he paid $130,000 to Stormy Daniels, a pornographic actress whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, just before election day in 2016 in exchange for her silence on a sexual relationship she says she had with Trump in 2006.
