Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres brawl at Coors Field

There were no tridents* thrown during the Padres-Rockies bench-clearing brawl on Wednesday, but boy, it escalated quickly. Arenado took exception to a pitch from Padres starter Luis Perdomo, then sprinted toward the right-hander in a fit of rage.

I've been covering Arenado since his debut in 2013 and have never seen him as heated as he was in reaction to the pitch, immediately spiking his helmet and charging the mound.

By that time, players from both teams had reached the scene and a real scuffle ensued, with more punches thrown and multiple players swinging and grappling.

The two team's beef started yesterday when Rockies reliever Scott Oberg accidentally hit Manuel Margot with a 95 miles per hour fastball to the ribs. Replays showed Parra landing a punch on Ellis.

Padres center fielder Manuel Margot was placed on the 10-day disabled list with bruised ribs after being struck by a Scott Oberg fastball in the ninth inning Tuesday. Ellis' face, and Ellis ended up on the ground.

Arenado, Perdomo, Padres catcher A.J. Ellis and the Rockies' Gerardo Parra and German Marquez were all ejected from the game.

That carried over to Wednesday when Rockies shortstop Trevor Story was hit in the first inning and Padres right fielder Hunter Renfroe was plunked in the second.
