Champions League shocker: Roma ousts Barcelona with stunning win

"It's hard [to keep calm] when you score the third goal, and the third goal obviously brings you the semifinal, but [Di Francesco] was clever, there were still 10 minutes to play, with added time nearly 15 minutes to play and we know what Barcelona can do, not just in 15 minutes but in one minute", Dzeko said. Roma dominated the game, they believed in themselves.

However, there is now a chance that the two sides could meet in the Champions League semi-finals, after Liverpool defeated Manchester City 5-1 on aggregate.

It's the first time that Roma has reached the last four since it lost the 1984 final to Liverpool on penalties in its own stadium - and it's the third straight year that Barcelona has been eliminated at this stage.

Trailing 4-1 from the first leg, Roma swept aside Ernesto Valverde's men at the Stadio Olimpico, winning 3-0 to progress to the last four on away goals.

Barca pressed on to pull back one goal but failed to find the back of the net as they crash out of the continental competition, with La Liga and the Copa del Rey their only possible titles this season.

Roma became the third club in the history of the Champions League after Deportivo and Barcelona, who managed to overcome the round of the knockout stage of the tournament after losing their first match with a difference of three goals. A 4-1 first leg defeat only cemented that thought process.

"Well when you lose a match like this you think about everything that went wrong".

"He (Pep Guardiola) took all the risks and it was his decision and it could've been the absolute right one, it's easy to say afterwards. I haven't talked to Gattuso yet, but we'll see". It's a very big disappointment after the great season we have had.

The visitors' Sergi Roberto squandered the first chance of the game but after that Barcelona struggled to respond to Roma's constant waves of attacks until substitute Ousmane Dembele whistled a long-range shot just over the bar in added time.

Suarez was so frustrated at times for not receiving enough balls that he slammed both hands on the pitch on one occasion.

Dzeko was at it again after the break with a show of brute force, shrugging off Gerard Pique and Umtiti to approach the goal.

Speaking to UEFA, Dzeko could not find the words to explain his satisfaction in helping the Serie A club to a historic first Champions League semifinal.

De Rossi flashed a header wide in the 69th minute, and 10 minutes later it looked like Ter Stegen had saved the away side's skin with an incredible close-range stop from Stephan El Shaarawy. "I am responsible absolutely, I am the visible head of the team and it was down to me".
