The Scary Scenes Looking Out From The Manchester City Team Bus

Thousands of fans lined Anfield Road to "welcome" the away bus to the Champions League quarter-final.

The two games that had already been played in the Premier League featured plenty of goals as Manchester City put five past a ten-men Liverpool to comprehensively win at the Etihad.

Guardiola and Klopp would meet again on different soil as they became Manchester City and Liverpool managers respectively. They have spirit, this is Manchester United!

However, City's tendency to pay heavily for momentary lapses in concentration is a recurring theme of Guardiola's career.

His Bayern Munich team were eliminated in 2014 after Guardiola gave in to his player's desires to convert back to the Jupp Heynecks system for the second leg of their semi-final game against Real Madrid, an all-out attack that was created to overthrow the 1-0 deficit and Bayern got punished for doing so.

"When we are able to win 18 games in a row in the league, in the Premier League that was the key point, where they said: 'These guys will win the Premier League'".

"In Barcelona (against Bayern in 2015) 71 minutes (it's) 0-0, (at) 90, 3-0".

"It happened many times. I have to think about it".

The second coming from another horrendous mistake where Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain was allowed all the space in the world by City's defence to rocket home a stunning shot to double the lead, City's defenders were too slow off the mark to close him down.

Guardiola met with City's chiefs when he took his players to the Middle East for four days of warm weather training last month.

"I came here to try to do what we have done this season and in the first half".

"We just have to think about what we have to do to win - control Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Juan Mata, if he plays". Some penalties in the first half, some in the second half but we have to improve.

City's team bus was met by hundreds of home fans who had lined the narrow streets at the entrance to Anfield and objects, including bottles and cans, were thrown at the vehicle carrying the players.

"The bus is destroyed but I did not expect a prestigious club like Liverpool doing this kind of thing".

When asked if conceding six goals in two games is a concern, the City boss referred to his side's overall defensive record this season: "We were the team with the fewest goals conceded".

And Guardiola believes City have to reach the standard set by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi if they are to break through as a European powerhouse. But it's boxes, in that level, in that competition, against that rival.

So when you have the chances you have to score two and it's possible that we could've scored three.
