Two arrested for stealing teddy bears, other items off Parkland memorial

For the past month, a massive memorial of teddy bears, balloons and other loving tributes left for the 17 victims of the Parkland school shooting has sat along the fence outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

"I am writing this because of the disturbing number of comments I've read that go something like this: Maybe if Mr. Cruz's classmates and peers had been a little nicer to him, the shooting at Stoneman Douglas would never have occurred", she says.

"This had more of a community feel to it. Speakers included a student who was shot, as well as a number of parents whose children were killed", Kropac said.

ABC News reports that Michael Shawn Kennedy, 37, and Kara O'Neil, 40, were arrested on Sunday after a witness saw them allegedly taking items from the memorial erected at the school.

According to an arrest report, several items from the memorial were found in the suspect's vehicle including teddy bears, plaques and pinwheels. Emphasizing that the group is not opposed to the Second Amendment, Broward County Commissioner Mark Bogen, said they will pursue changes in the laws that will make background checks for gun buyers mandatory, stop the sale of semiautomatic weapons, reduce the magazine capacity of weapons, and increase, to 21, the legal age for buying a gun.

Kennedy told deputies, "I ripped down the anti-gun banner because I am pro-gun", according to court documents.

The two reportedly visited the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School memorial for those who died during the Valentine's Day massacre.

Both suspects were arrested for removing or disfiguring a tomb or a monument and ordered held on $1,000 bail.
