Clint Bowyer snaps 190-race winless streak

Martin Truex Jr., last Sunday's victor at Auto Club Speedway, paced both Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practices on Saturday, running 95.752 mph in the morning session and 95.415 mph in Happy Hour. Cash then responded by telling his dad he wanted the checkered flag. "We're just figuring things out, and we're trying certain things in practice and throughout the race that we know will work and that won't work".

"For us to come out of here and lead a bunch of laps, win a stage and run third here at Martinsville, where I usually run awful, that says a lot about this team and the preparation that they did getting ready for this race", Blaney said.

The balance of the top 12 qualifiers, based on owner point standings, are: Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson, Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Aric Almirola, Kurt Busch, and Austin Dillon.

Clint Bowyer last won a NASCAR Cup race on October 13, 2012 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. By happenstance, Tony Stewart announced he would retire following the 2016 season and the SHR co-owner needed a replacement. John Hunter Nemechek won that race, and the track was cleared for Cup Series driver introductions. The No. 11 driver felt Bowyer was simply a step up on the field. It took him four teams to get that first victory, so maybe he just needs to keep switching rides a few more times so he can finally break through again.

"I was just bumping him back and he just brake-checked me", Hamlin said. "At the end of past year, there were layers of high frustration and some embarrassment that we just couldn't get things going in the right direction".

"I think people often take for granted how competitive pro sports are and how competitive this garage area is". "I did that but once I got within a second probably that's all she had. I had that confidence going into the race". The race was halted after 23 laps.

Kyle Busch: He hasn't managed a win yet this season, but another runner-up finish proves he's bound to break through soon.

Asked it's better to get beat and be close or get beat badly with no chance, Busch said he preferred the latter.
