Florida State advances past Missouri, 67-54

This was the first trip to the tournament for every player on the roster for Missouri (20-13).

Behind NBA rookies Jonathan Isaac, Dwayne Bacon and Xavier Rathan-Mayes, FSU won all of their home games, finished second in the ACC and reached the NCAA tournament for the first time in five years.

The Tigers played with eight players and didn't have help from standout forward Jordan Barnett (suspended for DWI charge). Not to that severity, but we would kind of come out flat in the first halves and going into halves. Missouri couldn't find its rhythm while working potential National Basketball Association lottery pick Michael Porter the mix during his second game this season after back surgery.

"I think resiliency would be the keyword if you had to explain this team", Porter said.

Should both Porters return, Missouri is likely ranked in the preseason top-10 and could make a deep postseason run.

But the Seminoles got it together to score 15 consecutive points as Missouri ran out of steam.

"Just like me deciding to reclassify here it will be a win-win regardless of what I do", he said.

Porter scored 16 points, had 10 rebounds and three steals in 28 minutes of action against the Seminoles.

The Seminoles pulled away — thanks to some Missouri misses and Florida State free throws — jumping the lead back up to an insurmountable 20 points. The Eagles lead the nation in 3-point attempts (1,126) and 3-pointers made (407) and feature six players with at least 100 3-pointers. "That really hurt. I wouldn't say we were out of gas, we just stopped being disciplined and stopped playing as hard as we had to get the lead to six". Get my body right. The next Missouri possession, Michael Porter Jr. could be seen in the corner with his hands on his hips while his teammates executed pick and rolls, screens, and entry passes to the post.

Now, FSU - especially after their performance late Friday night - has a chance at redemption against the team that ended their historic campaign last season.

IT WAS OVER WHEN: PJ Savoy knocked down a 3-pointer with 8:32 to go, stretching Florida State's lead to 13 and knocking the final bit of life out of the Tigers. "The season overall is moments like this where it hurts and highs".

"Of course, we had higher expectations to go further, but that's not what happened". Missouri's improved effort on the defensive side became apparent as well, as the team became more aggressive in getting around the Seminoles off-ball screens, contested more shots and even forced two shot clock violations.

As marvelous a turnaround as Missouri basketball experienced in the past calendar year-it's been nearly a year to the day since Cuonzo Martin was hired-the Tigers simply ran out of gas at the end.

Everything seems like it's going great, so why shouldn't this kid try his luck and get drafted to an National Basketball Association team? I was proud of our guys. We fought a lot of adversity this season and people counted us out at times during the season. He thinks they'll make a run next year.
