National Football League free agency 2018: Case Keenum to sign with Broncos, report says

The Denver Broncos are expected to sign quarterback Case Keenum to a two-year contract worth around $36 million once National Football League free agency opens Wednesday. Beyond Keenum, it also looks like Sam Bradford will be joining another team as it was reported yesterday that the Buffalo Bills, who recently lost their quarterback Tyrod Taylor to free agency, are interested in the oft-injured Bradford. The 30-year-old quarterback is coming off a career year with the Minnesota Vikings and will likely start right away in Denver.

It appears that the Broncos are giving Keenum a two-year deal at around $19 million.

The Vikings reportedly are one of the finalists for Cousins, along with the Jets and Cardinals.

Beyond that, the Keenum news also (possibly) proves that the Broncos were in fact afraid that Kirk Cousins had made up his mind about joining the Vikings and so instead of attempting to pitch some sort of late-game Hail Mary deal for Cousins, the Broncos chose to just go for the QB that Cousins is about to replace in Minnesota (knock on Teddy's wooden leg). Gang Green hasn't won a Super Bowl in 49 years, and the quarterback would become immortalized if he could bring a championship to the much-maligned franchise.

The roughly $10 million a year savings will help the Broncos address other problems on their roster that was only good for a 5-11 record in 2017.

Keenum is a player the Broncos know well because Kubiak, now the Broncos' senior personnel adviser, coached him for two seasons while he was head coach of the Houston Texans.

For Keenum, he will now face a pile of expectations in a quarterback-crazed region that saw its team win a Super Bowl just two seasons ago. "When you get opportunities like this, you've got to take advantage of them, so we're going to take advantage of it".

Keenum's arrival means Paxton Lynch is expected to return as a backup with competition from Chad Kelly and a potential draft choice - that has not been ruled out - as Denver plans on trading Trevor Siemian. We didn't play well there past year. "But I feel like we can get right back in the thick of things pretty quickly".
