Zinedine Zidane heaps praise on Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo

CRISTIANO RONALDO scored twice as Real Madrid survived a second-half fightback from Eibar to win 2-1 at the Ipurua Municipal Stadium.

The hosts started well but Ronaldo opened the scoring with a neat finish from Luka Modric's ball.

Ivan Ramis headed home Pedro Leon's corner to level five minutes after the restart, but Ronaldo finally doubled his tally after previously being denied by two brilliant saves from Marko Dmitrovic to seal all three points.

This time, Dani Carvajal whipped in a cross that Ronaldo met on the run to smash into the back of the net with a strong header.

Ronaldo almost doubled Real's lead just before the break but goalkeeper Marko Dmitrović produced a superb to keep out Portuguese's effort from distance. He is different; he's a very special player.

"We were struggling with our game but we all know what Cristiano can give us, with just a few chances he can score a lot of goals".

Real move four points behind second-placed Atletico Madrid, who can restore that gap to seven with a win over Celta Vigo on Sunday.

Real are 12 points behind leaders Barcelona, who travel to bottom club Malaga on Saturday evening.

Zidane added: 'He's from another galaxy.

Ronaldo's goals were his 17th and 18th in the league this season.

Ronaldo couldn't poke a 54th minute shot with the outside of his boot on target following some good build-up play, while Modric probably should have passed to an unmarked Ronaldo at the back post after breaking through the Eibar defence, and pulling his shot just wide.

Isco and Kroos made way for Karim Benzema and Lucas Vazquez with 19 minutes left but Eibar had two golden chances to score a second.

Eibar stormed into the game, pushing Real Madrid onto the other half of the field, with the visitors unable to find the spaces they needed despite their best efforts, reports Efe.
