Patriots Acquire Danny Shelton From Browns

That's not a typo.

The Browns chose to trade Shelton after the defensive line unit featuring Trevon Coley, Larry Ogunjobi, and Caleb Brantley played exceptionally well last season.

Just a day after acquiring stud wideout Jarvis Landry and quarterback Tyrod Taylor, everybody's favorite new National Football League squad trades former first-round selection Danny Shelton to the New England Patriots, according to ESPN.

But in the case of the Browns, there are several reasons they made the move to get rid of Shelton. Considering that the Patriots only gave up a 2019 third round pick, getting a player the caliber of Shelton will certainly help.

Shelton, 24, has recorded 71 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 46 career games since being selected by Cleveland with the 12th overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft. Most of the time when the Patriots make a deal like this, it turns out to be good for the team. Fellow defensvie tackle Ricky-Jean Francois is now set to become a free agent.

Although Shelton never became a superstar in Cleveland, he was a full-time starter during his three seasons with the team. Additionally, Shelton has started in all but two of the games in which he has appeared.

The best part for the Patriots is that Shelton is still under his rookie contract for another year.

The Shelton deal continues an active 24 hours for the Browns. After acquiring wide receiver Jarvis Landry, quarterback Tyrod Taylor and defensive back Damarious Randall yesterday, the new front office clearly believes that the roster needs a big overhaul. The Browns also pulled off a trade with the Packers that sent DeShone Kizer to Green Bay and added a potential starting cornerback for Cleveland.
