Israel army slays Palestinian man in West Bank clash

The Israeli army claimed that the soldiers shot the Palestinian while he was allegedly "throwing a Molotov cocktail at them", and added that it is "investigating the incident".

"We can not stop the tens of thousands of residents who will go north, south and east to protest against the siege imposed upon Gaza", he said, according to reports in Israeli media.

A Palestinian man was killed during clashes with Israeli army forces near the West Bank city of Nablus Saturday, according to a Palestinian Red Crescent spokesperson.

An Israeli military spokesman said Jabaari had been about to throw a fire-bomb at the troops, who were responding to an immediate threat when they shot him.

Tensions have risen since US President Donald Trump's recognition in December of Jerusalem as Israel's capital - a decision that has infuriated Palestinians.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said on Friday that the group would not be able to contain the mass protests on the day the US moves its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

At least 31 Palestinians and two Israelis have been killed since Trump's announcement. Its status is one of the biggest obstacles to reaching a peace agreement.

Following a meeting of foreign ministers of the Arab League in Cairo, Palestinian Authority (PA) Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki blamed the intergovernmental organization on Thursday for encouraging the United States "to continue with its unfortunate approach" regarding Jerusalem, reported Wafa, the official PA news site. Israel says the entire city is its indivisible, and eternal capital.
