Google Maps and Nintendo celebrate Mario Day

Google Maps and Nintendo celebrate Mario Day

The new inclusion was inspired by Mario Day and Google is ready to celebrate!

It's hard to deny how awesome Nintendo's "Mario Kart" game is, and whether you've played on a console or the arcade, there's a good chance you've experienced the fun that is racing friends in the title. You'll then see a prompt to enable Mario Time!

After the update, you'll need to select the famous question mark box on the bottom right of the app.

During your route, Mario will ride along with you on a red go-kart until you arrive at your final destination.

The Super Mario character, a plumber often joined by his brother Luigi, was launched in a series of platform video games by Nintendo in the 1980s.

Tomorrow is March 10th (Mar10, get it?), and Google is prepping to celebrate "Mario Day". Google has teamed up with Nintendo to bring Mario to Google Maps on Android and iOS devices.

Just as May 4th has become a special day for Star Wars fans, March 10th is now considered Mario Day. Why?

This new feature will turn your navigation arrow into Mario while you drive.

The mode will be available for a week.

Google is encouraging users to take a screenshot of Mario inside Maps and share it on social media with the hashtag #MarioMaps. On its blog, Google jokes, "Just do not forget to practice safe driving on the road-we don't encourage throwing bananas or red shells at other drivers in real life!"

If you don't see the update or the icon immediately, it might be taking a bit of time for Google to roll out.
