Mark Hamill gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Force was strong with Mark Hamill once more on Thursday as he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, just over 40 years after he first powered up his lightsaber to battle the Empire and the Dark Side.

Hamill got some sweet support from his former Star Wars co-star Harrison Ford, Star Wars creator George Lucas, recent Last Jedi co-star Kelly Marie Tran, as well as a pair of Storm Troopers and the iconic droid R2-D2.

The Walk of Fame is administered by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and is a major tourist attraction. The studio is asking fans to take to social media with the Jedi Day hashtag and combine it with #TheLastJedi to remember Hamill's triumphant return as Luke Skywalker in Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi. But it was the loss of Carrie Fisher that led him to reflect on a bittersweet moment amid the celebration. So the mom asked her followers to retweet and comment to show her daughter "how awesome Star Wars fans are".

"These will be brief remarks because words truly fail me", Hamill said.

"Mark Hamill is a character that can't be written", Lucas said of the animated actor while Hamill proceeded to make faces at the audience.

Hamill kept his own speech short, joking about his small role in Episode VII of the mega-franchise. That's exactly what I was looking for when I was looking for Luke Skywalker.

"When thinking about today I was really sorry we don't have the other member of our trio here to celebrate with us", he said, to applause from fans. "I haven't been this speechless since Force Awakens". "I love knowing that I'm right here".

"Star Wars is a big galaxy, and you can sort of find nearly anything you want to in Star Wars.", said J.J. Abrams, who is returning to helm Episode IX after directing The Force Awakens. He has been the master of his own experience, his own life, and he is-as he always was-a quiet, sincere, honest person.

"You are with me through thick and thin, in the highs, in the lows, in everywhere in-between", he said.
