Aussies, NZ in RU Sevens playoff for fifth

Fiji have lost 19-7 to the U.S. team in the semi finals of the Las Vegas rugby sevens tournament this morning.

The US team have never won their home tournament.

Series leaders South Africa will meet Argentina in the Cup semi-finals while Fiji will face the United States.

Playing in the fifth place semifinal against Australia, Shujaa gave as good as they got, finally exiting the tournament following a 26-21 sudden death defeat after the two sides had been tied 21-21 at the close of regulation time.

It is the fourth time Kenya is failing to go past the main Cup quarterfinals.

The USAs upset win over Fiji at least allowed SA to move further ahead in the title race‚ but they have more injury concerns with Werner Kok and Branco du Preez both in doubt for Vancouver next weekend.

Fiji will now play South Africa in the bronze medal match.

"We don't always test measure ourselves on the results‚ but also the way we play".

Australia lost to South Africa 29-19, hosts United States of America downed England 17-12 while Fiji silenced New Zealand 14-10 in the other main Cup quarterfinal matches.

Perry Baker scored twice against Fiji in the Las Vegas Sevens semifinal.

"The one against Wales a slow start and we didn't perform like we would have liked to".

"We will work hard this coming week and I am really looking forward to the tournament in Canada".

After the break, Willy Ambaka levelled the scores, but it was Argentina who had the last laugh thanks to a Renzo Barbier try with a few minutes left to the final whistle.

Against Fiji‚ Ruhan Nel scored a brace‚ with Selvyn Davids and Ryan Oosthuizen also dotting down.
