'Coco' wins Oscar for 'Animated Feature Film' at the 90th Academy Awards

Coco won the awards for best animated movie at the Golden Globes, Baftas, New York Film Critics Circle and Producers Guild, as well as 11 of the animation-specialist Annie awards (including best animated feature).

Disney/Pixar's Coco took home the Academy Award for best animated feature, topping a field that including The Boss Baby, Ferdinand and indies Loving Vincent and The Breadwinner. Marginalized people deserve to feel like they belong.

Taken from the film "Coco, ' the song, originally features Mexican vocalist Natalia Lafourcade and was written by 'Frozen" songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, was nominated for Best Original Song at this year's awards, the only song from an animated film to receive the nomination. The movie which followed the adventure into the land of the dead was announced as the victor of Best Animated Feature at the awards-giving event.

Latinx is a gender-inclusive way of referring to people of Latin American descent. Coco is proof that art can change and connect the world, and this can only be done when we have a place for everyone and anyone who feels like an other to be heard.

Honouring the best in the world of movies, the Oscars are not without their own quirks.

Despite his family's generations-old ban on music, young Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz. The film follows Miguel on a journey as he learns more about his ancestors and family history while telling the story of Mexican culture. It premiered in October past year.

He then handed the mic to Anthony Gonzalez, the film's leading voice star, who supplemented Unkrich's speech with a Spanish version. "Coco" dominated the award season in the animation category as it fetched all the major awards, including a Golden Globe and BAFTA, making it a sure shot victor in the category at the Oscars.
