Gov. Scott Declares Feb. 14th Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Remembrance Day

"When you're looking into the face of a friend you know, and they're crying and you want to take a picture of them because you know it's this wonderful shot to get but you know, you see the recognition in their eyes, it's so much harder to do it then", said Delaney. "It's a little nerve wracking after what happened, but I feel like the school is much safer".

The announcement comes as the community works to heal from the tragedy. Those marches are being held the same day as the March for Our Lives in Washington on March 24.

Q: Are students talking about school safety and gun control in classes or among friends?

"That's the power that we have as student journalists", said Delaney.

David Hogg, a senior who has become one of the most outspoken survivors of the shooting, compared coming back to the school to repeatedly boarding a crashed plane.

ALLEN: Florida's Senate will take up the bill tomorrow in a rare Saturday session.

The half-day for students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., was their first at school in two weeks - but what the day lacked in length, it balanced with heartbreak and hope. Classes will be dismissed at 11:40 acclimate the students to being back to school.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that four Volusia County teenagers were arrested Thursday for alleged threats.

The political columnist for the Orlando Sentinel, Scott Maxwell, wrote on Friday that "something different is happening in Florida" after the shooting massacre in Parkland.

The main factor in school shootings is not guns or mental health.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood said the suspects arrested Thursday will owe at least $1,000 to cover costs. All were charged with making a threat to discharge a destructive device. This would be the first full day for them since the mass shooting. The log showed that Capt. Jan Jordan gave the order for deputies to establish a perimeter. "In addition, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students in Florida have also demonstrated how savvy they are at organizing via social media while at the same time getting their message out to a national audience via traditional news outlets as well". Still, some districts in Texas and OH have already quietly started allowing teachers to carry concealed weapons to class, like this one profiled by the New York Times in February, which spends more than a quarter of a million dollars annually on safes, cameras, radios, and ammunition as part of the effort. "Literally nothing's changed except that 17 people are dead".

As for the confessed gunman, Nikolas Cruz, is behind bars.

Inscriptions in items surrounding the playground were sold as a fundraiser when it opened in 2000. At Stoneman Douglas, that's now journalism 101. An inscription of his brother's name remains on the fence.
