Varane: Real Madrid can´t give up on LaLiga

Real Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane claims "football can be a mystery" as his side "didn't deserve" to lose 1-0 to Espanyol in a La Liga encounter on Tuesday night.

The result leaves Real in third with 51 points, 14 behind leaders Barcelona.

Perez is poised to hand second chances to Dani Ceballos and Theo Hernandez though, with both players to be sent out on loan for more game time.

Ronaldo, who scored eight goals in his past four games, was rested by Zidane to make sure he is fully fit for their UEFA Champions League last-16 second leg against Paris Saint-Germain next week. Ronaldo also missed the league game against Leganes last Wednesday, which Real won 3-1.

No sooner had Madrid impressed on Saturday against Alaves by winning five fixtures in a row for the first time in 2017-18 than suffered another setback and it is really the story of their season. Luka Modric, Casemiro, Marcelo and Toni Kroos were all injured, so Isco and Marco Asensio were given chances in attack with Bale.

At least Barca fans can't complain that Espanyol have let Madrid have an easy three points after they inflicted a fifth league defeat of the season on Zidane's side - more than they lost in all competitions in the whole of last season.

Los Blancos looked to have earned a draw until late on in second-half stoppage time, when Gerard Moreno struck past Keylor Navas to end Real's seven-match unbeaten run.

Benzema did come on as Madrid pushed for a late victor, only to be caught on the counter when Sergio Garcia's cross allowed Moreno to score in the third minute of added time.

The Catalan club were coming off a 6-1 loss against Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
