MI records OT win over Iowa

MI records OT win over Iowa

It was the most points ever in a Big Ten Tournament game for Iowa, which hasn't won in the event since 2013. Something you think about, playing in Madison Square Garden.

-I've felt for some time that Michigan's Mo Wagner is among the most overrated players in the Big Ten and nothing happened Thursday to change that opinion.

Yet the games will go on Thursday, with four contests that, collectively, fail - let's just be honest about it - to inspire. "Once you get to this point in the season, everyone is fighting".

The Terrapins and Badgers contrast in their style of play.

"So it isn't as if, you know, we caught them in December way back early when". "My emotions are confident for the future, but I also feel ... not depressed but sad at the same time, because this team has that competitive nature, we can turn it around".

Garza scored 10 first-half points as the Hawkeyes led 40-35 at the break.

Following a five-second call by MI on the ensuing inbounds, Iowa got the ball back but misfired on a Bohannon 3-pointer.

After a foul-filled first half that saw also saw MI go 0-for-7 from 3-point range, the Wolverines jumped all over Iowa and erased a five-point halftime deficit within the blink of an eye as it opened the second half with an 11-0 run.

Ryan Kriener led the 12th-seeded Hawkeyes (14-19) with 14 points. They move the ball really well, have a lot of 3-point shooters.

IL then charged, using back-to-back 3-pointers from Tim Frazier and Michael Finke to trim the lead to 59-54. A Mason 3-pointer with just more than seven minutes left cut the Gophers' deficit to four, and a Jordan Murphy breakaway dunk with 6:45 left brought Minnesota closer than it had been all half, at 49-47. Maryland also lived at the free throw line going 18/19. The Irish will host a semifinal game against the lowest remaining seed Saturday March 10 in South Bend. Bridges was on the second team a year ago.

For the rest of the half, MI nursed a moderate lead, struggling to put the game away for good. IL had four players reach double figures. Penn State defeated Wisconsin 2-1 in OT to claim the Big Ten title at Joe Louis Arena. Deshawn Freeman led the Scarlet Knights with 11 rebounds.

Nebraska went small and put 6-foot-8 Isaiah Roby on Wagner.

Nichols, a sophomore, and freshman Trent Frazier, who scored 13 points, hope to be part of a turnaround at IL. Ashton Luttrull's 20 points led the Redhawks, who finished at 14-17. Bohannon had 11, including an ice-in-his-veins type of 3-pt shot that sent the game to overtime tied at 67.

Andrew Hussey, Michael Ramirez and Jake Thomer preview the Big Ten Conference men's basketball tournament. With 9:22 left in regulation, Robinson made the team's first three of the game - and the first bucket outside of the paint.

No. 12-seeded Iowa (14-18) got its Big Ten Tourney off to a solid start Wednesday, downing IL 96-87. Considering they were playing their second game in less than 24 hours against a team that didn't have to play Wednesday, it was totally understandable.

But a blowout loss at Maryland was followed by a late collapse against Rutgers on the road and then an epic fall in the second half against second-ranked Michigan State.
