Hope Hicks Is Resigning as White House Communications Director

The departure of Hicks, who worked as a one-woman communications shop during his campaign, came as a surprise to most in the White House - and cast a pall over the West Wing at a trying time for the president. She added she wished Trump and his administration the "very best".

Previously she had worked for the Trump Organization.

Interest in the Russian investigations into her activities revolved around her role in crafting the White House communications response to a 2016 meeting between members of the Trump campaign - including the president's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr. - and a Russian lawyer at Trump Tower in NY.

The 29-year-old has been a close confidante to the commander in chief for the last three years. Two days after the election, she said: "We are not aware of any campaign representatives that were in touch with any foreign entities before yesterday, when Mr Trump spoke with many world leaders". "I will miss having her by my side, but when she approached me about pursuing other opportunities, I totally understood", Trump said in the statement. She reportedly was involved in the drafting of a memo that did not accurately recount the reason for the Trump Tower meeting in June 2016. "Far and away one of the most talented and skilled people Ive ever met and coming to work wont be the same without her", Sanders said.

Last US summer, she was named communications director, overseeing a staff of dozens and responsible for the administration's overall communications strategy.

"According to the source, Trump asked Hicks after the testimony, how she could she be so stupid", Burnett continued.

On the same day the President resumed his ad hominem smear campaign against his own attorney general and one day after CNN reported that special counsel Robert Mueller is taking a look at Trump's finances in the run-up to his decision to run for president.

"No", Trump had said, "My presidential campaign!" She was director of strategic communications at the White House, and took over as communications director after Anthony Scaramucci left the role in July 2017.

Hope Hicks (pictured) was considered one of Trump's most trusted and loyal aides. "I don't think it's possible to overstate the significance and just the importance of her role within the White House".

Hicks' exact departure was unclear but is expected to be sometime over the next few weeks.

Robert Trout, a lawyer for Hicks who has represented her in the Russian Federation investigation, declined comment.

Perhaps Trump's team made the calculation for her.

Hicks also became engulfed in a scandal involving Rob Porter, who served as Trump's staff secretary until he was forced to resign amid accusations of domestic violence by both of his ex-wives this month.
