At least 10 suspected Maoists were killed in an alleged gunbattle in Pujari Kander bordering Chhattisgarh and Telangana State early on Friday morning, the police confirmed.

Bijapur (Chhattisgarh), Mar 02 (ANI): At least 10 Naxals were gunned down in a joint operation by the Telangana and. They have blown up train tracks, attacked prisons to free their comrades and stolen weapons from police and paramilitary warehouses. The Maoist encounter took place in the Pujari Kanker forests under Pamed police station area, around 500 km from Raipur, Bijapur SP Mohit Garg said. Meanwhile, the injured constable has been airlifted to a hospital. "We are yet to identify the remaining bodies".

He said the Association has moved a "lunch motion" petition in the Hyderabad High Court seeking direction to the police to follow Supreme Court guidelines related to encounters. The bodies will be handed over to the families of the deceased as per the court orders.

Police have also seized a heap of arms and ammunitions including an AK-47 rifle from the possession of the dead Maoists. "Three jawans sustained bullet injuries in the gunfight", an IPS officer said.
