Asus Zenfone 5's AI features won't reach older models, confirms executive

Most people will immediately notice the similarities between the Zenfone 5 and the Apple iPhone X. Asus also added that it is what the consumers want and they have to follow what is trendy.

When the Apple iPhone X came out past year, we expected flagship smartphones from its rivals borrowing its design and offering it at affordable rates.

The device sports a dual camera setup on the back, and a rear-facing fingerprint scanner, while thin bezels are also a part of the package. The exact pricing and availability have yet to be confirmed, Asus will release the Zenfone 5 Lite next month. The dual-SIM smartphone runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with Asus ZenUi 5.0 on top.

Apple started a trend when it introduced the iPhone X. One that's filled with no bezels, glass bodies, and notches.

The Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5Z are almost identical devices that differ only in processor and storage configuration.

The Zenfone 5Z is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with Adreno 509 GPU and AI Boost that improves performance during heavy graphics sessions. To take on Samsung's Galaxy S9, the ZenFone 5Z offers a combination of powerful RAM and storage options: 6GB of RAM with 64GB of storage, 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage, and 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. The company didn't reveal the price of the other two models as of yet. The display is 6.2-inch Super IPS LCD panel and it comes with an 19:9 aspect ratio with Full HD+ (2246 X 1080p) resolution.

The phone resembles iPhone X as it copies both top notch and vertical rear camera setup. But ASUS says this is the first instance that the chip's AI capabilities have been unlocked for a phone. A 3300mAh battery completes the package. It has 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 5, GPS + GLONASS and USB Type-C (2.0) connectivity. As seen with the earlier Zenfone smartphones, the Zenfone 5 Lite also in few different variants. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor and 4GB/6GB RAM - the internal storage is 64GB which is expandable via microSD card slot. The smartphones include the same design, display size, cameras both front and back and battery set up. However, the handset doesn't really boast of anything especially unique as compared to other Android devices.

The Asus ZenFone Max (M1) (ZB555KL) will be available in Deepsea Black, Sunlight Gold, and Ruby Red colour variants. It runs Android 7.0 Nougat with Oreo update planned for Q3 2018. While we still don't know what the bog-standard Zenfone 5 will cost when it launches in April, the Zenfone 5Z just might be the best value you'll find on a Snapdragon 845 machine. As of yet there is no clear information on which model will hit the Indian shores. The Zenfone 5Z comes in 4GB/6GB/8GB RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB internal storage variants. Up front is a "120-degree wide-angle camera" and a 20MP camera with Sony IMX376 image sensor. The 5Z sports a 12-megapixel primary shooter with Sony's IMX363 sensor and a 6-MP 120-degree wide-angle secondary camera to achieve the popular Portrait mode. The ZenFone Max Plus M1, for example, is backed by a 4130mAh battery and is claimed to deliver up to 26 hours on standby time and up to 13 hours of video playback.
